It is difficult to say what the net effect of
amisulpride is on post-synaptic dopaminerigic neurotransmission. Because it has more potent activity at presynaptic receptors, it will enahance dopamine release. Yes, it will partially block the activity of that released dopamine, but the net effect on the post synaptic repceptor is unknown.> It needs no dopamine test, and no acurate dopamine tests exist anyway.

If an overactive dopamine system was at the heart of the problem, then an antipsychotic could provide symptomatic improvement. It would not really lower overall dopaminergic function, just the function of dopamine at certain receptors.
