I take Paxil for social anxiety (as well as general anxiety). It has worked wonderfully for me. I started feeling the effects about 5 weeks after I started it, and I've been on it for about 6 months. I still marvel at how my quality of life has improved. Of course everyone responds differently to each medication, but I think that Paxil is a good place to start for social anxiety.
The only side effect I have is sexual. I think that this side effect tends to be a little higher with Paxil than with other SSRI's. It is my understanding that adding Wellbutrin counteracts this to some extent (something that I'm considering).

Good luck!

Jen
