Hey Deneb,
How are your classes going? Are you keeping up with the reading? Are they interesting? Are they hard? Are your profs interesting, or do they put you to sleep? Have you met any other students in your classes? Do you have tests or papers coming up?
My classes don't start until 1/25. But I'm looking at some of the tutorials at the library, and I've started thinking about what my big paper should be about. I want to choose a topic that will let me research something that will help my library (the one I work at). So I started making a list of what some of the choices could be. I've always been a procrastinator, but I'm going to try to get most of the work done for this paper early in the semester. Hopefully that will help to even out the workload over the semester.

I've been keeping up with the readings for one class. I have to keep up for the other classes too.
Tomorrow I'm going to stay late at the school library to study.
>Are they interesting? Are they hard? Are your profs interesting, or do they put you to sleep?
I like the prof for molecular evolution. She's a good teacher. Ecosystem ecology is an interesting class in that most of the material is from journals. Animal physiology II is an interesting class because of the things we will learn. Environmental science seems like an OK class, pretty typical.

No, I haven't met other students. I'm going to have to because in ecosystem ecology we have to work on a presentation with 3 students per group. I haven't done anything like that since high school. It'll be scary. I have a quiz coming up on Thurs.

I did a group project last semester with 3 other students. We had an awesome group and got an A on our project. They had all done group projects in the recent past and said that our group worked better than most. I think we made a good effort to let everyone be heard and to let everyone have some say in the direction we took the project. And I made a friend in the group. She and I will edit each other's papers as we go along - we both edit the same way.
My two top topics for my paper are:
1. The role of volunteers in a library
2. The differences in the charter of academic libraries and public libraries.I hope you enjoy your time in the library. I find that my house is pretty distracting (particularly the part where there is food in the next room!). I'm going to have to figure out how to stay focused since my program is online! But I do have a number of libraries that I can go to if I start getting too fat.
Often I dream about taking classes - but usually my dreams are at the end of the semester and I haven't been to class, don't even know what room it's in etc. Last night I dreamed that it was the BEGINNING of the semester. I still didn't know where the room was (and it was far enough away that I was going to be late for the first day), but at least I wasn't behind in the classwork! That seemed like progress to me.

That's terrific. Did you choose the people in your group? Or where you just assigned randomly?

That's great. I haven't found group work very productive myself.

I find that my house is pretty distracting (particularly the part where there is food in the next room!).I actually did my studying in the computer lab and cafeteria. I tend to tune out background noise and commotion when I'm concentrating. I was actually very productive today. I studied for 5 hours. I'm going to try for more before I sleep.

It must take a lot of discipline to complete at home courses. I don't think I'd be able to do it.

Keep up the good work! :-)
