i have fallen alseep and can't wake up

Posted by smokeymadison on April 28, 2004, at 17:05:58

i only have one more week of this! i have 4 papers to write and 4 tests to take and i can't do a thing. i feel paralyzed. what have i done the past twenty four hours? let's see... i mixed vicodin and ambien (to sleep and for my hip pain--i tore a tendon)last night and wound up in the emergency room. i went there b/c i wanted to cut my arm rather bad (i did the night before). i just wanted the agitation and negative emotion to stop. they shot me full of avitan and sent me home w/ my boyfriend.
they said to never take vicodin again, so now i am on panlor.

i spent today laying in the sun and getting my hair done-- a good $90 bucks i don't have. doesn't sound like a very productive 24 hours, does it? Obviously, i didn't make it to class. i have to snap out of this, and fast. but i have no idea how to do it. somebody needs to give me a swift kick to the head, or something. time is slipping away and i can't make myself give a damn about it.

i suppose i could just go to my profs and say: my head has turned into mush, i have been in the emergency room 3 times in the last week, the pain meds have knocked me off my feet, etc. one part of me thinks that i have a valid excuse for not being ready and for falling behind, but another part is screaming what a pathetic, lazy, good-for-nothing, never to be a grad student mess i am.

Hi Smokey

You should try to get done as much as you can and what you can't get done, go to your teachers and give them your excuse (I sound like a mom!) It sounds like a good one because it involves your health...

Here's what my brother does to get his homework done: He doesn't do anything till the last second. This past week he took a day off to get his homework done (because he didn't do it the night before) and he still didn't end up doing anything until 11:30pm. He also drinks those starbucks prepackaged drinks. They are supposedly full of caffeine. So maybe you should try this.

You should try to make it fun while you are doing your work. I really understand that homework sucks! Getting through it is so hard when all there is to look foreward to is more homework. SO. What I do is: do a little homework, do a little babble, do a little homework, get up to get something to drink, do a little homework, watch a little TV. It works and makes me motivated!

thanks

that is a good idea, doing little bits at a time. i could make myself get something done before i let myself smoke, before i let myself catcha show on tv. i am not good at starting b/c i am so terrified of messing up. besides, all i can see is the huge amount of work ahead of me. i will try to back off the pain meds as much as possible the next couple of days, that should help too.

thanks again for the tips

smokey

The other suggestions were good. I'd also suggest you decide to tackle the easiest/shortest assignment first, cut it up into little chunks and do it one bit at a time, just as much as you can.

If you've done an essay plan or a rough flow diagram of what you propose to do for each assignment, you can take that to your tutor to show you have started but explain that you need extra time. Whatever the outcome, its worth asking for help/an extension. If you don't ask you don't get, and all that.

Good luck.
