They know no bounds in deeds of wickedness; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, the rights of the needy. Shall I not punish them for these things, says the Lord, and shall I not avenge myself on a nation such as this? An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely and the priests rule at their direction; my people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes? (Jeremiah 5:28-31)

There are only 2 or 3 Liberals left? And a couple more Nationals.
Have you been reading about Christian Porter, our AG? Quite large demonstrations, around 1,000 in our little town. My wife was reminded by someone on Facebook by a photo of her (so young and beautiful) of 50 years ago at a rally against exactly the same thing. It has been asserted that 4% of the swing against the Liberals was anger at the Federal Government over the endless list of their (maybe the word is) malfeasance. And resentment of their stupid ideas of superiority.

Is that the assault case? I haven't followed it, but had some unpleasant reactions to a photo of the fellow. (I could be mixing the names up?)

Social media, esp Twitter and reddit and (some independent press like Crikey) are on fire in the comments sections. This has been building for decades. I understand that the comments people are not the majority, but this is extraordinary.

The members of the government are either corrupt, hopeless or fascist. They even use Nazi language. No Federal election this year now.

How goods Australia! We dont shoot our protesters not even female ones
It's a very low bar that Prime Minister Scott Morrison sets for Australian society. And it just keeps on going lower.

What do you mean? An election has been canceled? Surely I am incorrect.
What sections of reddit is this taking place?
(somewhat alarmed now)

Our elections are most often at the discretion of the PM, certainly federally. Things looked hopeful for the Liberals until all this.

It was this perfect storm.
A Liberal staffer had been raped and the issue not dealt with. Then it was handled badly. Scottie was reminded by his wife that this woman could have been his daughter, but instead of being grateful many Australians became angry. Then (or before) there was the 4 Corners program on the Canberra Bubble. Christian Porter, AG, became angry because his background shown there was consistent with what next came out: accusation of anal rape 30 years ago with suicide of victim last year. Seems to have been a tradition at that school. They are bred to hold themselves to the highest standards of probity. And then it was International Women's Day. That was after Porter's press conference where his performance was much better than Brett Kavanaugh's (sp?)
This is after a series of scandals over the history of this government involving heaps of money and lots of punching down on the poorest. Dutton annoyed NZ be sending offenders back there and calling it 'taking out the trash'. He is Murdoch's pick.

It goes a lot further than women and men, eg indigenous boys in prison and general violence against the defenceless.
This is reasonably good.

NZ pretended to be upset. Because now the deported are our problem.
Our prisons are largely populated by young Maori who are taking the rap for gang elders as part of their initiation into gangs. That is to say our prisons are largely populated by boys who are relatively easy to handle / compliant / fun to abuse re: prison management.
But Australia is sending back hardened criminals the likes of which our prison management... Is struggling to manage. These hardened criminals have access to more serious drugs and guns networks...
I don't know how many Australians are in NZ prisons. I think we are still in 'it is costly to punish and so we won't' mindset. That is to say I don't think we have imprisoned people for their crimes, for the most part, we don't do that. We just go for the low-hanging fruit for the most part.
The woman who bashed a sexual offender with a hammer to prevent his reoffending because the Government refused to prosecute him / put him safely away to prevent his reoffending and to prevent a member of the public needing to take things into their own hands.
People like that.
We need to be less racist and imprison some white collar (also white) criminals. The ones who have the power to arrange for change for the good from the inside. Literally. Put the Ombudsman into the prisons he's said there's nothing wrong with. Let's see how he feels about it, then.
New Zealand trains Australians to be Medical Doctors because New Zealand regards Australians to be local (eligible for NZ Government studnet loans) when New Zealanders are not eligible for Australian HECS Government loans to study Medicine in Australia. The New Zealand Government chooses to allow that. Why? Why does the New Zealand Government choose to treat New Zealanders as second class or third class Australians?
The Australians that Australia wouldn't train. Sent here to sneak in the backdoor. The kids of the elite officials since they can't send them to UQ anymore...
So they send them to Dunedin as the fastest route back.

One of our latest NZ deportees was 16, I read.
You still have our Brendan Tarrant. Grew up near here. I saved The Great Replacement but having grasped the argument, as it were........
Given a choice between Dunedin and UQ I'd go with Dunedin. Brisbane is too bloody hot in summer.

> One of our latest NZ deportees was 16, I read.
ooh. 15 I read. Not even of age to be consented for AstraZenica vaccine in New Zealand.
> You still have our Brendan Tarrant. Grew up near here. I saved The Great Replacement but having grasped the argument, as it were........Huh. Never heard of him. Really? We got one and didn't deport him for Australia to pay the cost of his imprisonment?
I hear it's only $100,000 NZD per year to keep someone in prison. So anyone earning over $100,000 per year should be fair game, then. I reckon. The government workers earning over $100,000. How can we afford NOT to imprison them??
> Given a choice between Dunedin and UQ I'd go with Dunedin. Brisbane is too bloody hot in summer.Yes. But you don't study over the summer. You study through winter.
There is a lot to like about Dunedin. There is so much potential. I like the brisk and snappy cold. There's nothing much better than curling up with a good book someplace warm and cosy when it's snappy cold outside. That can make for a very productive environment in which to study. If you get to study something you are genuinely interested in. It is like the environment conspires to help you stay focused.
But there's an elite white thing, in Dunedin. Partly because it's so isolated, I guess. Historically. It's only relatively recently that things have become more inter-connected with the internet and flights etc.
There's a real sort of old ruling class aspect about Dunedin. A who's who about it. I'm sure they think they are working class just doing there best to punch above their weight and feeling afraid people will feel like... Looking behind the curtain and seeing how... Little there is behind the scenes. The show.
But the fact of it is they rule with an iron fist. And they aren't able to...
Face up to things that are hard.
When facing up to things that are hard is a requisite first step in the process of figuring out how to make things better.
They won't acknowledge me. They won't let me. I'm not prepared to spend the rest of my life sucking up their *rs*s 'yessir nosir anything you say sir' waiting for them to... Curl over and drop dead. Before things might be allowed to get better (yeah right).
There was something... All the way back when I was end of my undergrad / honors. About a whole generation of professors and ruling elite... About how there wasn't any jobs for anybody else until they dropped dead. And now I look around... And a few people who were peers at the time... Decided to stick around and suck up, I guess. And now they are them. And everybody is just waiting for them to drop dead.
It's not a nice or good system.
But there are people who have invested years of sucking it up and waiting...
For their turn.
They invested in...
It being their turn.
So that's a problem.

I think UQ got a few slaps on the wrist recently. By recently I mean over the last, I don't know. Maybe up to 10 years. TIme is flying down the drain and I can't keep track anymore...
First there was a fiasco of the VC giving his daughter a place in Medicine on grounds of equity 'leadership' because she was his daughter. This is a public place for private advantage. He was stood down or he resigned over it. But she was not required to give up the training place she stole. He was not required even to financially compensate the studnet whose place it was that she stole.
Second... There was some... Arrangement... Might have been with Florida... Anyway... The UQ kids were studying for their US lisencing. They were studying for the Step Exam. They were required to have Step One scores BEFORE stepping into the wards. They were arranging for clinical placements / internships in Florida.
And I think...
What that meant...
Was that it became a back door to the US. So the kids of the wealthy elite who didn't want to do the 4 years of undergrad in the US (and obtain teh scores for Med entry to the US from Calculus and 4 Chemistry Papers etc etc etc) were studying at UQ and doing clinical placements in Florida and getting into the US... Match. They were matching. ANd they didn't have the big loans their US counterparts were having.
I think Florida has withdrawn. Whatever partnership there was with whatever University or Hospital System (for the internships).
It was a bit of a scummy scam. I think.
But I still would suppose things to be more corrupt in Dunedin.

IDK about you, Alex, but who would choose Florida over Dunedin?
When I see those maps about rising sea levels I always look at Florida.

i thought florida was a popular place to retire. warm weather. alligators. i don't know.
i'm not a fan of humid climates. i have a lot of sweat glands. if the air is dry i feel myself functioning as i should. if the air is humid i feel unpleasantly damp.
dunedin is unpleasant because of the corruption and elite white supremacist thing. unfortunately. the presbyterians don't help, either.

What's that thing called? Not the rotunda. Anyway there is a large protestant church in the centre of town. Nice to see the Church of England missing out.

Well, the Lord thy God is a jealous God, I don't know why, it does sound immature, but he was younger then and hadn't been around so much. I'm sure He knows that
They were careless people they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.
as F Scott Fitzgerald wrote. I wonder if there are slave markets in Benghazi? The endless piling up of things shouldn't be a problem to Him.
This is the end of the thread.
