I have been taking 187.5 mg's of EffexorXR for about 6 months. Though I have experienced many side effects, including constipation, bloating, vertigo, agitation, and night-sweats, it was all worth it if the drug eased my depression. I think it has, but in the last couple of months I have been experiencing blurred vision. I have had regular eye tests and wear progressive lenses (which are strange enough)but I NEED MY EYES! Has this happeend to anyone else? Is it permanent?

Welcome - I was on Effexor for about a year and a half and my vision problems with the med was that it dried my eyeballs out (I wear contact lenses). Could that be the issue with you??
I think I remember seeing about this in the past here - you could try a search of the archives, try "effexor" and "vision"???Oh, and my eyes did get better.

Thanks for the message. It's great to know there are other people out there who are on the tightrope. I guess I need to decide if all the side effects are worth it. It's hard to tell with depression whether a drug is working or am I just having a good day? I'm having an eye test tomorrow and will have to sort it all out. I am terrified of the thought of going off EffexorXR. Even a missed dose has been nasty. Thanks again for your support, Antigone.

Gaah - the half life of Effexor, even the XR version, is really short. I found that timing was critical for keeping the medication working, especially when I first started it.
Good luck with the eye exam,

Within the last few months, I have seen an eye doctor for the same reason. I was on Prozac (low dosage) then was upped b/c not working enough. W/n weeks my vision became blurry and I got scared. Doc said that it was all the Prozac b/c my prescription didn't change from the last check up a few months before. I've learned to accept the blurriness; i just wear my glasses and move on - knowing that I can mentally face the day is is a blessing over having to wear glasses.

Well, the optometrist says my eyes have deteriorated slightly and who knows why? It could just be the natural progression of age. I will stick with EfexxorXR because at least I can function even if I can't read the fine print. If I get to the point of walking into walls I will have to re-evaluate! Thanks for your input,
Antigone
