I quit taking effexor 150mg daily "cold turkey" approx. six weeks ago. Have had many different withdawl symptoms, however the ones which have NOT gone away are nausea/upset stomach and most of all the "brain shocks" Is there anything to subdue the severity of these shocks??

Hi, I've heard that Benadryl (the antihistamine) can help with withdrawl symptoms from Effexor.
good luck

Hi there...did the cold turkey thing myself and thought I was going to die...seriously. I was rattling around, brain shocks, shivering, nausea, dizziness, severe nightmares and night terrors (I was even afraid of my dear cat)....must say...2 weeks later...they seem to be a bit better...although I'm quite moody and concentration is very poor. Thank heavens my Therapist made me see sense and put me back onto Xanax and Prozac...so I'm coping a lot better. My Th. says that Effexor is the worst drug to do a cold turkey on....and you cannot do it alone...yet we've done it (we have to be mad). Anyway, good luck and hang in there.

BRAIN SHOCKS???? One of the worst things you can experience. Even if you're late by one day or half a day with Effexor...you experience Brain shocks...hard to explain...almost like when you move, or talk, things to seem to follow slowly after you...like you're in a sort of time warp, you feel dizzy, like you're moving underwater...you get these 'zaps' to your brain....weird....just too hard to even try to explain. Have you ever had them???

Cold turkey is no fun...and am still having a hard time with the withdrawl symptoms. I am taking benadryl as someone said it may help. And i guess it does ...to some extent. No help from my Dr. as I did not inform him I was going to quit taking my medication. I am moody, bitterly angry (at what is a whole other story) and the brain shocks are driving me crazy. No one understands what I am going through, which is why I am glad to find this sight.

dear LexyR;
How are you doing at this time? Quite a few of us have survived experiences with cold turkey that could have done us in. I think we must be especially resilient in some parts of us[the ones that aren't broken.]
I think a good sense of humor helps us survive.
This is the end of the thread.
