It just seems like good self esteem and good parents go hand in hand with each other.
How much of our self esteem is based on the beginning relationships in our lives?

There is also the relations we have with our brothers, sisters and friends, though relations with siblings will perhaps reflect relations with parents; and important relations with friends comes later.
Still, I do think that our relations with our siblings are undervalued as influences.

Horrible self-esteem from parents and sister was so much younger and also blamed me for everything. No wonder I have none. Phillipa

I was just being sarcastic. I think it is so much more involved than good or bad parenting.
Bad parents that demonstrate good self esteem could be imitated by the child for example. Parenting does to always involve just the mother and father. If others are around to do some of the good stuff needed than the parenting that creates good self esteem might prevail. For instance my brother had friends whose parents became kind of surrogate parents to him. He sought them out and they responded. He still feels a great debt to them and I am jealous.
Of course genetic predisposition plays its part I would think.
