i have lost 30 pounds on weight watchers taking me over 3 years to do it.i have gone from 161 to now 126.5. i am 5 feet tall. my problem or question is that i don't eat during the day very often, but drink maybe two pots of coffee and drink sugerless liquids ALL DAY LONG, maybe a few carrot sticks and spinach leaves for lunch. but i look forward to my evening meal which is usually a nice tv dinner, or a spinach tuna salad. question. is it normal to go all day long some days without eating all day and then eat at say 7pm (the highlight of my day) ive been doing this for years, and people tell me i should eat during the day but i can't force myself to. Would some people consider this an eating disorder?? i try to eat healthily when i do eat, and take lots of vitamins. but i drink liquids all day long never go without a drink in my hand (another issue....is it possible to drink to much liquid?) thanks for any or all replies!

Well, it's "normal" sort of behavior for someone with an eating disorder... It's not healthy, it's more likely to lead to weight gain than eating regular meals throughout the day, and there's not a doctor or dietician in the world who'd advise doing it. Hard as it is, I think you'd be much better off learning to eat three meals and three snacks a day.

As for the liquids, that's another story. You can certainly drink too much water -- I tend to do that, partly part of the ED, partly other reasons, and I have collapsed from it. No fun at all. Too much coffee is cardiotoxic, and most sugar-free liquids -- like diet soda, etc -- are also pretty bad for you. I know that some of them show signs of leading to increased bone loss in some studies -- although now I think of it, I can't remember where I read that, so don't ask for proof.

In general, moderation in all things is a good rule. Too much of anything ain't good for you, and eating just once a day is particularly bad.

Do you have a therapist you can talk about this with?
