Did you know that one of The Ramones had an ED?

Posted by Racer on May 1, 2005, at 19:41:01

I just watched something on Independent Lens on PBS last night, about The Ramones. Dee Dee Ramone talked a little about having an ED, which I found both interesting and very sad.

Thought maybe it would get some discussion going, since everyone is so quiet here...

This just makes me think about what kinds of resources people had back then to cope with their ED's. Not much compared to nowadays, I'd gather...
I remember feeling surprised to find out that Sandra Dee had an ED...she was someone I used to love watching on TV and thought she had the most "perfect" life in those Gidget movies.

I watched that documentary the other night too, but must've missed the part about Dee Dee having an eating disorder. Thats kind of shocking.

Speaking of musicians and eating disorders, have you heard the song "Tunic", I believe it's called, by Sonic Youth? It's one of my favorite songs. The song is Kim Gordan singing as Karen Carpenter, about her tragic lust for thinness. It's on the album 'Goo', which everyone should own.

"another green salad. another iced tea. theres a tunic in the closet. waiting. just for me."

the racing drums and heavy dissonance of the guitars makes it really spooky sounding.
