Posted by Tom Twilight on June 12, 2006, at 15:49:20

Hey there

I developed IBS......great!

My IBS is the kind were you have to "go" all the time

What I wanted to know is what supplements do people recomend to help with this type of IBS?

Also I'm worried about nutrient malabsorbtion
What can be done about this?

I am going to make you disappointed since there is no supplement that will cure IBS but there is a diet that will. It is called paleolithic diet (caveman diet) and excludes sugar, grains (rice, bread etc), beans and dairy. It is a diet that our genes are more adapted to and will reduce your intake substances that irritate your bowel. It will also reduce your intake of carbohydrates that stimulate bacteria growth in your bowel.

I dunno much about IBS, Tom, but these come to mind as possibilities.
Lactoferrin (good brand of)
Probiotics (ditto)
Ultraprobioplex (By Metagenics...Australian company?) This is supposed to somehow increase IgA (I might be wrong) leading to increased mucosal density
Glutamine (can be stimulating)
Otherwise a really good diet like those with allergies have? Like no processed foods, not too many grains, protein with every meal, lots of good fruits and vegetables.
You could go to the LEF website and look up their IBS protocol (www.lef.org).
