There's no rule that says being "argumentative and provocative" is not civil.

>but if I was to reply to your question suggesting Bush's party, *I* would fall foul of his civility rules.

Yes. Or if anyone were to say the same about the Democrats, the Green Party, independents... .

I think that it might be difficult for anyone to back that statement up with actual data. There are, after all, thousands of posters here who hold diverse beliefs.

I'm sorry I posted that. I seem to be cranky and repetitive.

"There are, after all, thousands of posters here who hold diverse beliefs."

I doubt there are that many, and its a pity they are stifled from expressing their beliefs in a full and frank manner.

Although they certainly are not all active at this time, you can see in the site statistics how many registered members there are.

Even when expressing something fully and frankly leads to hurt? Even when there are a gazillion (intentional exaggeration because I like the word) other sites where one can express oneself fully and frankly? Even when one knows coming into this that there are limits here yet chooses to register and participate anyway?

Yeah, the only time I really get irritated is when I see inconsistancy, or a decision that seems too extreme. But I guess that's maybe the inevitable downside of having rules.
I don't know, my opinion on that changes.
But I appreciate the spirit of the civility rules, most definitely.

Other than that I think it's odd when there are so very many open sites and places in real life where you can say anything you want to, that one would come here an expect that.
It's kind of like going to a baptist church and wondering why you cán't have a satanic ritual there.

Actually gg, I think you are banging this particular drum far too loudly. ;-)

I'm a big fan of Bobs civility rules, I just dont see them as compatible with a politics board.

I actually think GWB's foreign policies are making the world a more dangerous place....now that statement on the politics board could get me a block for potentially upsetting any Bush supporters. How can you possibly argue that such a situation promotes healthy debate?

Actually, dont bother as I'm fed of banging my head against this particular brick wall.
