how many people who really hate you
(dr bob)
really cared what you thought of them
really were blocked for a really long timeand so now they have turned.
how many?
i do wonder that sometimes...
how much you have brought on yourself.
and what it is going to take for you to take us a little more seriously regarding the length of blocks / borderline nature of a fair few of the blockings.
maybe it comes of being a p-doc...
yeah dr bob thats right
you are right and we are wrong
you know what you are doing (cause of history) we don't know what we are talking aboutif we have a point and you have a point your point gets implemented or whatever and ours gets ignored.
if we have a point and you don't like it (even if you don't really have a point of your own) then ours gets ignored.
i guess you can write it off as transference...
and not look at the present situation that people are responding too...
did you get punished as a kid dr bob?
how long did you need time out for?i don't think you do understand.
but you know what, you don't have to...
all you have to do is listen and take us seriously.

I think the blocking system should be changed too. I think instead of doubling the blocks, you should add 1 week.
> maybe it comes of being a p-doc...
Dr. Bob, you don't dismiss us because you think we're crazy and don't know what we are talking about do you?? Don't use me as an example, I'm a bad one, I do crazy things, but there are lots of other people here who make a lot of sense.
Dr. Bob, sometimes when you say that you have e-mail problems I think that maybe you are just saying that so you don't have to answer us.
I don't mind if you lie to us sometimes. I don't mind if you ignore us and our ideas sometimes. I like you just the way you are. I love you Bob.

A simple week block would accomplish a lot of things:
We wouldn't have long administrative discussions about civility and the length of blocks. A week block takes the drama out of it.
It's said that a sense of "community" is valued on this site, yet it seems to me that monster blocks of several weeks or months are more destructive than constructive. We have the usual blow-ups, blocks, administrative post-mortems, followed by more blocks, until the cycle repeats itself. How can you build a community on shifting sand?
But the main reason I'm against long blocks - anything over a week - is that everything should be forgiven and the slate wiped clean. If that means an offender gets blocked several times a year, so be it, but he or she will always have the chance to rejoin the community with a fresh start.
I'm back to wondering whether this site is a kind of group experiment to see how we react to civility rules and punishment, and not really a site about community and support, afterall.
I'm really on a break right now. I have an evening planned of experiments of my own - what will 5 grams of ground albizza flowers do?
