Re doc bob all ...just my musings

Poor Doc. Bob takes a lot of bashing here and often time I wonder if it is deserved. As a physician, he has certain obligations. I am thinking of a post accusing him of “hacking” in to another system. Although computer crime is illegal, does it override his obligation as medical professional and “mandated reporter” of those that may “cause injury to themselves or others”? I think that would go to high courts. If this really happened, does anyone think Bob did it for any reason other than to prevent the death of someone here? I highly doubt that it was done with malice!

Redirects, doc, can be bothersome. Maybe you should look more at the context as well as the comments. Like you may think this post should be at administration—and it does in a way—but it also belongs here, as much of the conversation that this post looks at happens here. Maybe I should post at both or you could leave and re-direct??

Comments about ‘being civil”: what is wrong with that? This board deals with many, my-self included, that can easily miss-read on take a comment out of context which could lead to further actions that I will not mention but I think all get the drift.

Blocking: (boy I’m on a role) I don’t think doc ever blocks without prior suggestions of civility. This is his bored and I would imagine—despite his research ect.—he does this for more than data collection. I mean how many times as he made “personal” comments to us as individuals. We are not seen merely as subjects—as mice or lab rats—but those comment treat us as peers.

Free speech is an American right, but there are even some exceptions to that—like hate speech or screaming fire in a movie theatre when there is none ( I could remember the law and incident that led to it, and what movie it was during…lol)

Also, aside from his responsibilities as an MD, they’re also certain research protocol that again he is mandated to study…for more on this, search for “research and syphilis”
and see some of the “rules” for scientific enquiry he is bound by.

Personally, while at times he frustrates us, I’m sure we do the same to him. I remember once while a bit manic thinking I totally took over the board and aside from many of you who I’d like to thank for helping me feel that was ok, he did as well. I think we should see more of his positives than focusing on the negatives.

And while doing so, remember to use “I” statements!!!…Morning meds coming right up: one lump or two???

Ok, I’m back to self-blocking status for a bit, but like Orwell, I’ll be watching you!!

In peace and with love,
~tony

For a start I don;t believe Dr Bob hacked anyones machine.. to do this is NOT easy and requires more technical knowledge than I believe Dr Bob has.

As for the rest, I'm totally with you. I feel safe here, and for the most part am happy to be here (apart from the odd poster deliberately winding people up).

Feeling safe, for me, is a huge thing. I ahve had a internet "stalker" that has made my life hell at other websites I use, and here, I am safe, and know that if he did find me here, dr Bob would deal with him.

I guess alot of other people don't need that total feeling of safety, and thats why they complain about his civility rules.

Nikki

Actually, Nikki, I don't think he does either, and nor do I: He even answered a post I left him a week ago about being a wed "master" with an eerr.."sort of" but he is teaching at one of the best Universities in the states and I bet he could wonder in the CS or CIT dept. ask and half to fight student off with a stick, while caring only one out.

AND, I recently read, that it is easier to "hack" now esp those that are not using a firewall or do not have it set up right to be "port scanned." Who knows... peace, ~tony

Ps, I am sorry to hear about your “friend” on-line, I had one in real and net life and at least I knew her—she is my Fatal attraction style ex. I can’t imagine what it feels like with a swtranger….GL

I know a few hackers.. and while it is easier to hack these days, with broadband being an always on connection so that people are online without sitting at their pc alot more, its still not something that is easy by any means!! Most of the hackers I know have been doing it 10 years or more, and its not something you can pick up over night.

I advise everyone with broadband connections to have a firewall.. I personally use a router with a built in firewall.

What, I think, happened, is that her ISP was contacted in relation to getting in touch with her, and she has cried "hack" without knowing exactly what a hack involves.

As for my stalker.. he's popped up again, apparently with proof my husband is cheating on me, followed by some very nasty comments on my phsysical appearance.. I know his name and address, so if anyone in the Mid West USA wants to earn themselves $100... ;)

Tony,
Redirects may be bothersome but reading the identical post on more than one board is incredibly annoying. It wastes my time as I end up reading the same post more than once and it tends to reduce the chances of interesting discussion as some people end up replying to one thread and some to another. If you aren't sure what board a post belongs to why not just guess. Or, if you must, post a one line link to the post on the other board.

Posting on two or more boards is also unfair to people who are trying to avoid a certain kind of post. Several people have posted that they find the fights on Admin upsetting and that they aren't reading this board. They should be able to read Social in peace. If they can't, they will probably leave babble entirely.

Please don't feel like I'm singling you out. Other people have done far more of it than you have recently. It's just that I'm hoping it will stop. We used to have posts that got posted over and over on different boards and on different days until people complained. Frankly I've enjoyed not having to deal with it since then.

Thanks,
Jane

PS. I personally HATE being redirected even when I realize it's justified. I always feel a bit like I've been publically reprimanded for talking in class - or doing something else that I, and everyone watching, knew I shouldn't be doing. But then, I also HATE being redirected to stand on a different line at the bank for the same reason and I know that's completely irrational. And it beats getting to the window and finding out the teller can't help me.
