Server configuration/searches

Posted by Eddie Sylvano on February 25, 2003, at 14:40:27

Any plans to reenable the search feature? I gathered that it was disabled due to computer constraints. Given the usage trend, it would appear that this will only degrade further. If it's not top secret, what is the current server configuration? Does it run on it's own server, or share one with other sites? What OS? What language is the search code implemented in? How's the database configured? I would think that you could find someone (programmer) at UC to move the site onto a dedicated server fairly cheaply (though I dunno what you're paying Verio now).
Anyway...

It shares a Unix server. I haven't actually switched to a database yet:

The old search engine was in Perl. Once it's in a database, searching should be a snap, yes?

Oh yeah. I would imagine that it'd also be much easier to create new (and more portable) methods of data manipulation (different forms, search options, etc). This place will be much more responsive.
Go, Dr Bob!
