what exactly is the difference between these 2 medications....which in theory would have more of a calming effect...or basically a celexa/Lexapro patent extender?

I'm --clearly-- not an expert, but...I'd personally see if the shrink would go for Abilify 1st. Its now generic, there's a wide dosage range, and it does not elevate prolactin....

the potential prolactin elevation from Rexulti is kind of a let down, for me. Oh, that and the narrow dosage range and exorbitant cost. :-(

but I'm not you, nor am I your shrink. I think akathisia is still fairly common w/ Rexulti and the V-one, so...as a person who takes psych drugs, I'd wait a while and see how it goes with the first couple rounds of people who take it, given the option.

Abilify was a bit of a game changer (i.e. offered something that other APs weren't doing).

It had activity at 5-t1a and partial agonist activity at dopamine receptors (perhaps causing less dysphoria).

On paper, I don't see any major advantage of rexulti vs abilify.
