Hello all.
I have been on parnate (resumed it) for 18 months, an now take 140mg a day. It has been the only agent which has given me a faultlessly reliable "bottom" below which my depression does not sink. It has done wonders for movement and anhedonia. But my affective, cognitive, motivational powers remain very flat.
I was supposed to be adding vyvanse but, because I broke my ankle and required surgery and weeks of rehab, my clinic (UPENN, under Michael Thase's supervision)said they could not treat me unless I could attend regularly.
So now I'm without a psychiatrist with any adequate expertise who can accept my insurance. I'm using up the last prescriptions of my parnate.
What I decided to do was, as of today, add 100mg of over-the-counter 5-HTP to my parnate. I must say I am feeling a moderate boost: I have done my clothes washing which I had not touched for over a month; I have been writing emails; I cleaned my room up.
My concern is: is 5-HTP safe with parnate (especially at 140mg)? There is the issue of serotonin toxicity. I've also read about cases of mania and hypomania. Plus cardiac effects.
Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks a lot.

I did that however i can not tell you if it is safe. Man, i took so much stuff with my Nardil... I was 90% improved.
Then i became psychotic when i discontinued everything except Nardil

parnate is a MAO-B inhibitor, which is mainly the activation neurotransmitters, not so much serotonin which is from Nardil, if you were Nardil that would be very risky and dangerous
if you felt improvement, and didn't feel serotonin syndromish maybe it could ok, because parnate is not really a serotonin AD, but still it may have some effects on it. Generally it has a warning on certain medicines like cough medicines, and others such if you take a MAOI with this, call poison control, mainly because of tyramine elevation, and serotonin. Can't eat tyramine foods, but im kinda like wow 5-htp with parnate, i take prozac at 80, and yes when i'm depressed even though there's reuptake inhibition of serotonin, there's not enough serotonin being made, so when i took 100mg of 5-htp extended release, i felt much better, it was a quick fix and replenished serotonin. I read that it is kinda risky with adding too much 5-htp but a small dose could replenish what the antidepressant is still not getting
