Abilify 400 mg is canceling out seroquel XR healing effects upping dose to 100 mg XR im going to 150 XR or more.
Scott any ideas?

I have seen this in a friend of mine. When Abilify was added, her dosage of Seroquel went from 300 mg/day to 800 mg/day.

My idea:
Seroquel and other antipsychotics work by blocking dopamine D2 receptors. However, Seroquel is the "weakest" blocker. That's why it takes such high dosages in order for it work. By comparison, Abilify binds strongly the D2 receptor. However, it is not a pure receptor blocker. It also stimulates some receptors. So, Abilify out-competes Seroquel for binding sites along the neuronal membrane. In this way, Abilify reverses much of the action of Seroquel such that one would need higher dosages of Seroquel to recover its therapeutic effect.
300 mg/day of Seroquel without Abilify =
800 md/day of Seroquel with AbilifyIt might be better to take Saphris (asenapine) instead of Abilify when combining another antipsychotic with Seroquel. Ir has antidepressant properties without D2 receptor stimulation.
