Pharmacy filling name brand in stead of generic

Posted by FloydAS on March 18, 2016, at 8:20:29

So, I am prescribed Focalin XR 10 mg. My prescription plan calls for filling generic when available which this is.

I go to my local mom and pop pharmacy for this prescription as I have trouble with availability at the CVS and Walgreens types nearby in my area. The mom and pop pharmacy has been filling my prescription for the past year on a monthly basis. Every single time they have filled the prescription it has been with the name brand Focalin XR (confirmed with the pill identifier number). However, on the bottle it is labeled "Dexmethylphenidate HCl Extended-Release - generic for Focalin XR" and the price is consistent with generic pricing on my prescription plan.

I am aware of pharmacies pulling the bait and switch routine when prescriptions are written specifically for the name brands and they fill with the generic and charge for the name brand in isolated instances - that has been well publicized. But this is the opposite and for the life of me I can't figure out why they would be doing this. I'm not complaining as this would seem to be strictly a burden on the pharmacy. But it just sure seems flat out weird.

I get all of my other prescriptions filled at the local CVS as my CVS Caremark plan provides better financial benefits with the 90 day supply if you fill at the CVS. So this is the only prescription I ever get filled at this pharmacy.

I had a pharmacy that some times filled brand name drugs in place of generic. Its called brand name drugs as generic, for the price of generic. Basicly they sell the brand drug for the price of the generic. I think the drug company lowers the price to compete with the generics.
