Remeron facial changes / mirtazapine aging

Posted by randomnamey on October 30, 2014, at 21:48:27

Hi, has anyone noticed their face sagging while on remeron or related antidepressants?

I've read articles with little in the way of evidence, however there is a lot of speculation online, along with individual experiences such as mine.

Some of the sagging may be weight and age related? It seems abnormal, so that's why I ask. I'm 30, and things return to normal when discontinuing the drug for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, I do not know of a good replacement for the drug... After stopping before for 6 months + with increasing TMJ, anxiety, and insomnia, I gave up the giving up and started back on a low dose (7.5mg). :/

BTW, it doesn't seem to matter how much or how little I have to be anxious over, I'm naturally anxious.. even when on vacations, in love, asleep, any combination of scenarios! Hence drugs.

Do you have any drastic weight changes when you are on this drug? That could account for skin sagging-fluctuating weight.

You could try adding melatonin (if all you are taking is remeron). Melatonin mixes well with remeron and has 'anti-aging' properties.

BTW, chronic insomnia will age you faster than remeron IMHO. Keep insomnia under control.

I seem to recall reading or hearing somewhere that people on psych drugs look a bit older than non-medicated people of their age. Why?

My bet would be for a mix of direct ill effects of the med(s), plus the underlying issue(s). I don't know anything about Remeron specifically, so really can't comment...

...have you tried anything else, maybe? I was thinking like neurontin, lyrica, a benzo, maybe a less weight gain-ey and sedating AD...

...I dunno. Something. Just a thought.

Good luck!

Remeron can cause significant weight loss.
