Joe how come it didn't work? I went from 60mg to 30mg no problem then found babble and believed all the horror stories so did a taper for a week or so and then went back on low dose luvox. Phillipa

When I was withdrawing from Cymbalta I was really dizzy and nauseous. That's all I remember.

I doubt it's as bad as the horror stories. For one thing, those stories are worst case scenarios. The people for whom it's either all right or basically just uncomfortable for a brief while usually don't write in. For another thing, we don't know how good their care was-- they may not have had access to good meds to help with symptoms.
What it's like depends how much you've been taking, for how long and how you calibrate the taper.
I used cymbalta, at a very low dose for about 9 months to a year and had no trouble at all. I don't think I even noticed coming off. But I think my dose was extremely low because of my sensitivity to serotonin.
On the other hand, I used parnate for four or five years at a very high dose and was really sick for a few days when I had to come off cold turkey because of a freakish bad reaction.
It really depends on a lot of factors. I wouldn't assume anything other than you need to taper at a reasonable pace and you might be uncomfortable for a short time--
I would hope your pdoc would know how to mitigate a bad reaction-- and will help you out if things go awry.

I was on 60mg cymbalta for 2-3 years. Getting off didn't seem that bad of a experience. Depression and anxiety returned as expected. The usual brain zaps and tingling that I experienced from withdrawal from SSRI's. Remember cymbalta is a highly effective AD. You should be in a comfortable place in your life and a healthy environment where you have friends, family and recreation to help the transition. Also.. Sam-e, Rhodiola, Omega7, magnesium taurate, doxylamine helped me a lot.

Could you cross taper on to an ssri that is milder to discontinue? Some individuals (like Phillipa for instance) do not experience heightened withdrawal. Good luck.
