So, now I'm thinking i need to find a way to have Deep Brain Stimulation done. ECT benefitted me slightly, but not enough. And I'm just basucally out of ideas for anything else to try.
i know DBS for Depression is in Clinical trials, but the closest trial to me us abiut 3 hours away. and the trial isn't even free. they work with Medicare though. and it would take lots and lots of time on my part. about 2 years in all, i believe. besides, I'm not sure id want to be in a Trial because they're only testing it on one specific part of the brain. The Trial is more for their benefit than mine. And if it doednt work, oh well.
id love to find a hospital that would do DBS off-label for a Depression, since its only approved for Parkinsons and a few other conditions right now. And if it doesn't work in one arwa of my brain, hopefully they'd try it in another area. my condition is just too severe to be told I'm out of luck.

I had talked to someone at the hospital in my state that just finished a Clinical Trial on DBS for Depression, they said right now they're not doing it for Depression in a normal surgery setting. i think I'm going to see if my psychiatrist talking to them will help at all. and i think i might just call and plead with them.

DBS remains a very experimental treatment for depression. I can appreciate why you would be willing. However, 2 major clinical trials were shut down by the FDA for failing to demonstrate efficacy. DBS is brain surgery and can have some very unpleasant and dangerous side effects. Research carefully.
