off Cymbalta on to Parnate?

Posted by Elanor Roosevelt on February 25, 2014, at 13:45:41

I've been off Cymbalta for over two weeks. Last week I met with Jonathan Stewart at NY Psychiatric concerning a Parnate study which I may or may not be part of. The dosage in this study is higher than the amount of Parnate I have taken before. But really I am considering it because I feel I have run out of options.

Off the Cymbalta I have been more productive but remain reclusive with lots of backgroud static in my head. Lithium or not I have a quick temper. I yell at strangers on the street if they annoy me(I live in NYC, there are 8.5 million people in my way). But in taking drugs that make me feel sluggish or sedated I do not reach a state of calm or relaxation(has anyone explained that to the medical world?)
One does weary of the parade of meds.

So can anyone remind me of how the initial weeks on Parnate go and what one does to cope?

I think you should hook-up with a doctor who will treat you with high-dosage Parnate outright. If Dr. Stewart will not do this, he might refer you to someone who does. Patrick McGrath, perhaps?

Did Effexor or Pristiq help you more than Cymbalta did? What about trying Fetzima (levomilnacipran) or Brintellix (vortioxetine). I might choose to discontinue Parnate to try these two drugs. I am particularly interested in Brintellix because it is a 5-HT7 receptor antagonist.

Right now, I am having no luck with Latuda or Saphris in treating my bipolar depression. My guess is that the 5-HT7 antagonism makes me feel better initially, to be followed by a worsening due to NE alpha-2a receptor antagonism. Remeron makes me feel worse. It is also a NE alpha-2a receptor antagonist. So... If you feel better with Remeron and you have bipolar disorder or psychotic depression, you might do well with Latuda or Saphris. Did you try Viibryd or Abilify by any chance?

Sorry for the ramble.

Keep an eye on Phiddipus. He is currently trialling Brintellix.

Good luck with Parnate.

I think you may have mentioned Patrick McGrath to me long ago. In fact, I think your suggestions then helped me find help at a time of extreme crisis.

The study I am entering seems all about high doses of parnate and I am good with that. Also, I have Nifedipine which is a great comfort to me--i do not like emergency rooms.
Also, according to LostBoy the parnate usage may result in an enlarged penis--hope one will be provided for me.

I have saved your list for next possibilities (just in case i don't live happily ever after)

Sorry that neither Latuda nor Saphris are working for you. The feeling better initially and then worsening you describe is the story of my life on meds. Hope your treatment is more successful in the near future.
