Because of the nortriptyline weight gain and appetite increase, the dr suggested phentermine. How does this compare to ritalin and dexedrine? He said they are in the same class but last longer (and I think not as strong).
Stimulants help my mood and motivation, but they eventually lead to some more swinging on my mood. Any insight? Thanks.

worth a try. i was on it for a couple months. the first month was the best, after that it sort of leveled off. was on adderall previously. but needed to loose zyprexa weight. it did stop the munchies of zyprexa, however i only lost a couple lbs. i would suggest to someone to start taking it the same time you start another med that would cause weight gain.
However, it is certainly worth a shot.
Best wishes.

>it was just ok. adderall was much more effective for me. mostly because it helps my mood greatly and gave me more energy. i'd say the phentermine was weaker. softer than adder all

Stimulants initally give me a mood and motivation boost. I have only taken Phentermine a few days and am hoping that is the reason for a worsened mood.
I guess phentermine is also a stimulant but only works on NE. I know it is not suppose to help your mood, but why might it worsen it when it is in the stimulaints class?

I know it is not suppose to help your mood, but why might it worsen it when it is in the stimulaints class?I think phentermine works more on the hypothalamus than the other stimulants. Sometimes, more is less. As an example, increasing the activity at Brodman 25 produces depression while decreasing it acts as an antidepressant. This is how DBS works.
Looking at synaptic neurotransmitter levels is important. However, with the brain, it's location, location, location. The brain is a network of circuits and processors as well as a pool of neurochemicals.
