do i ever know about severe anxiety! It caused me to have an unneeded heart cath. I do believe it can cause memory problems, and esp. if the anxiety is causing sleep deprivation.

My mood disorder, when it gets bad, definitely causes memory problems. I don't remember a lot of last summer and I was not drinking or on any meds. That was depression and transient hypomania, not anxiety, but i could see both affecting memory.

Long term anxiety can affect the hippocampus and affect memory.

Same here...severe anxiety...hummm should write debilitating anxiety lead to memory problems for sure... I tend to forget things all the time now... also not only giving memory problems but make me very detached, dont want to move or do things...but that's maybe linked to my many fears and phobias and my health anxiety...or the benzo meds...don't know...but can say something and will not remember it 1 minute later...also tend to always answer with the same words, like my vocabulitary ability is lowered...is someone ask me if the movie I watch last evening was good I will answer I don't remember or yes even if it was bad and boring...don'T even have the energy to answer properly...

yes, it will can thoughts to derail and cause confusion to the point where it will create more anxiety until you are having panic. It's really to know how to control your thoughts and create a thought adjuster that will stop your thoughts from going to the point near insanity. I've had to deal with anxiety without any meds for it, it can happen its all the process of learning to adapt to crisis from anxiety.
