Bipolar dx

Posted by markwell on May 13, 2011, at 7:59:48

I'm really having a difficult time working. I work in a high speed factory. My doctor gave me a diagnosis of bipolar nos. I'm 55 yrs old and I'm thinking about social security disability. Would they recognize bipolar nos? How hard would it be to get ss as I couldn't afford to live without it?

Markwell,

BPnos? But you had full mania, did you not? Guess I don't understand the dx. Is this dx a new one? What is the nos based on?

I am concerned now about neurontin and your work because some people might say it slows the reflexes. I don't know though.

Sorry I don't know about disability. I think there are online advisors and contacts though.

Nos means not otherwise specified. I don't know what that would do for getting disability but I am a wreck.

Hi Markwell,

I meant that with some full manic episodes in your history, how was the dx nos arrived at? I thought nos was always non-manic. True though, you mentioned the mania was drug induced.

I believe you when you say you aren't doing well. My pdoc says bpnos is an
awful dx because it's so difficult to treat and it's symptoms are all over. I was treated as bpnos for many years. I've read about it lots, but I could never quite figure it out.

I am so sorry it been rough for so long. You are remaining proactive, so that's very good. You have my ongoing best wishes.

(Because of my own issues, I accidentally bumped into a neuropsychologist who helps folks get through the disability process which can be stressful. She's on the west coast and works with fibromyalgia and cfs clients. Maybe others. I was looking for health treatment, but could dig up her number if you think she'd at least be a starting point in your search.)

Markwell my nextdoor neighbor just got disability for mental issues and she suffers from anxiety her pdoc just thought the stress of teaching wasn't in her best interests he applied for her she got it. That's the same way I got it. Pdoc applies and they know exactly the right words to use. Give him a call. Phillipa
