It has been about a month since I have been off the Nortriptaline. The pain in body, as you know, got worse. But yesterday, after going without it since I started the Nortriptaline I got my period back. Weird? My doctor told me I wasn't getting it because I had gained too much weight too quickly. WRONG! Na-na she was wrong! On the other side, whaaaaa, I got my period again.
Off to the drugstore ....

Yeah, that's a good example of why I tend to shy away from the general consensus of treating depression casually with prescriptions. I mean, it is all purely experimental. No one has a clue what these chemicals actually do, how they improve mood when they sometimes do, why they don't all the other times, and why the bizarre side effects. Withdrawals given a sweet innocent term like "discontinuation syndrome". Bizarre developments after longterm ssri usage. On and on. I mean, think about it, to stop a period is rather heavy duty. Maybe no big deal to someone else, but kind of scary to me.
Unfortunately, as long as the patient chooses to limit their own progress to the office of a psychiatrist, these things have to be expected sooner or later. I feel depression is too much of an all-encompassing condition to be dealt with by a chemical in a pill. The psychiatrist office and the prescription, in my opinion, should be about 25% of the overall efforts being made. More often than not, we see them being 90%-100%, and then wonder why we don't get better.

No, I don't think so. I year ago when I was started on Seroquel in the hospital I got my period within 3 days of starting it and I had a just finished my period a week prior.
I think it is too much of a coindence for it to be peri menopause.

I know certain drugs like sulpiride raise prolactin levels, which can cause lactation in both men and women. Blueberry is right - we don't know half of what these drugs do in our system. Definitely some of your hormones somewhere are being raised / lowered by the meds.

Yeah right, like a month after I start it I lose my period. Exactly one month after I quit it I get my period back. That is not peri menopause. That is drugs messing up my hormones and doing lord what else!

So are you saying you have had your FSH level checked as that is the indicator of whether you could have started peri-menopause. I wish I'd know about this stuff at the time as that is when my anxiety was so horrible and insomnia. And I had never known that peri menopause varies from woman to woman some breeze right through it never a symptom til the end when monthly flow gets lighter closer together, or heavy horrible that some get abblation or hysterectomies, and others just skip or have irradic flow. So if it's meds and you experience lactation or lack of menstration those meds sound very powerful to me and cause me to be more determined than ever to avoid as many as possible. I guess weighing the good over the bad ultimately helps a person decide their best course of action for them personally. Just my thoughts Phillipa

I had my FSH level checked back in March and everything was normal. Yeah, for once I was normal. That doesn't happen often.
