Nardil -the confusing med! Help

Posted by benzo85 on August 18, 2010, at 18:15:20

1st time
I originally started for SA/depression Started at 75mg, (1mg/kg) w/in 5days. Within a week or two my disorders were wiped out. Felt 100%.

2time
-2weeks 60mg nothing
-11weeks 75mg, slow but steady climb up into mild depression, anxiety still bothersome.
-6weeks 90mg, depression mostly wiped out 1st week. anxiety still lingering.
-2weeks 105mg, slight improvement in anxiety. Side effects too much.
- Lower to 30mg for a week
- 3 weeks back at 75. Anxiety finally smushed.

3rd time
-2 weeks 45mg
-4 weeks 60mg slight improvement
-7.5weeks 75mg slight inconsistent improvement

Feel about 60% of the way there.. which is relatively crappy still.

So the 2nd time I was on Nardil, it was 24weeks for the true powerful effect. I wonder if it finally working was due to going so high in dosage and inhibiting mao.. or lowering and upping? Or just waiting a long *ss 24weeks.

Any advice on getting improved response? I'm now at 13.5 weeks and very frustrated at the poor response.

Thanks

some interesting things:

i've had to lower dosage to 15mgs a day to last til next doc appt. i've noticed improved effect. i think it has to do with nardil inhibiting its own metabolism at certain dosages, and its pronounced effect on serotonin aswell.. too much of it perhaps. less overpowering sert= more da/ne.
not to mention weight sliding off is fun.

i recall an article i read on phenelzine describing acute/chronic administration in rats.. after acute trial, there was large increase in se/da/ne, etc, but after chronic administration, da/ne levels remained constant but se continued to go up. food for thought.

So you can notice an improved effect on just 15mg/d?

Interesting.

Yeah, less side effects, more energy/motivation, less anxiety.. i think there's more da/ne bouncing around. I'd actually like to be at 45/d, but i'll have to wait a few weeks for a new script.

If I needed to end up on it I'd try for a really low dose.
