Wellbutrin dosage

Posted by X-ray on June 7, 2010, at 12:02:23

Hi,

I know that the target dose of Wellbutrin XL is 300 mg, but I'm on a Wellbutrin/Remeron combo.

So my GP argued that I should stay on 150 mg of Wellbutrin.

I think that he was talking about the risk for serotonin syndrome, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know about Wellbutrin, Remeron and serotonin syndrome?

Should I increase the dose of Wellbutrin XL from 150 mg to 300 mg?

I really like this doc, but he's not a psychiatrist.

Best regards,
X-ray

Wellbutrin XL 150 mg
Remeron 45 mg
Buspar 40 mg
Lyrica 25 mg
Fluanxol 1 mg

*Theoretically* Wellbutrin has minimal effect on serotonin, so that should not be a concern. However, my personal experience was that when I took Serzone (a fairly pure SRI) while on Wellbutrin I had an absolutely typical serotonin toxic episode, so I'd be cautious. I haven't taken Remeron & Wellbutrin together, but I would expect some interaction -- Remeron is an unusual AD and there's a lot of variation in how people react to it.

Walk gently.
