I saw another NP at the crisis clinic for a refill yesterday, it was an interesting visit. I couldn't see the one I saw last time because she wasn't working that day.
She encouraged me to gather my medical records together, which is a good idea, I think--so I don't have to tell my whole story over again.
Got the "have you thought about ECT/what about adding a low dose antipsychotics?" pitch I've gotten before, and explained that ECT is not on the table, and neither are APs--except PERHAPS abilify and only as a last resort. A fellow resident here (Bipolar 1) takes it, but he shakes and has to take cogentin for EPS. Is it any wonder I'm scared of those drugs?
I had to practically beg her for a 10mg dose increase, so now I'm taking 30mg at 8am and 20mg at 2pm (starting this morning.)Interestingly, she said some of my symptoms (anhedonia, flat feeling, etc) are consistent with PTSD, even though I don't meet DSM criteria for PTSD...
I'm going to gather my psychiatric records this week so I am well-prepared for my visit with my new permanent prescriber on the 10th.
I also wanted her to switch my Klonopin (depressogenic and too sedating, I think) to Xanax but she was inflexible here. My hope is to get my records from my private provider from when I was working and doing very well (last long lasting remission) and taking just Nardil and Xanax, and crossing my fingers that my new doc is not a MAOI-phobe or benzophobe.
How have I been doing? Mostly down, a little more like myself yesterday. Will keep the board updated...
Some outside-the-box thinking I've found right here on this site:

Im impressed as you've been out and to a doc appointment already today. Also found klonopin depressing, xanax has a slight ad effect. I'd push for that. Good Luck Phillipa and glad your're feeling better.

Yeah, its funny how some doctors just see past the side effects of the drugs they're prescribing. The emotional responses to a drug have nothing to do with the drug. They're always a symptom of the underlying disorder.
I've been on some of the heavy antipsychotics. They leave me flat as a board. Even 5mg of olanapine made me emotionally dead. Then they blame the schizophrenia for "flat affect".

I like outside-the-box thinking. Though you don't seem to be feeling very good, I am very encouraged at your wisdom and strength. You sound like you are in control and know what you are doing. I like that. I hope your doctors will be cooperative with everything you want to do.
