Has anybody experienced weight gain with Risperdal? I just got put on it after a suicide attempt, and I noticed that one of the side effects is weight gain. This concerns me as I have a history of eating disorders. How likely is it that I will gain weight?
Thanks :)

I gained weight very rapidly on risperdal, but I have a friend who was on it and gained no weight at all. I also gained weight on abilify, which very few people gain weight on. So you should try it and see. The weight gain, if it happens, happens right away, so you'll know within a couple of weeks if it's going to be a problem.
If you have an eating disorder, it would probably be helpful to you to gain a few pounds anyway.

My following comments depend on whether risperdal works for you or not. If it doesn't they don't apply. If it does...
Big difference between weight gain and suicide attempt. No contest. The weight gain wins hands down.
Weight can be managed. Maybe a notorious weight gain med like Zyprexa or Depakote person ABC might gain 30 pounds. But if that same person carefully chose what they bought at the store to eat and engaged in efforts to burn off calories, that 30 pounds would be more like 5 or 10 pounds. And the whole while, the choice of foods and activity are both going to help the recovery by a couple notches on a 1 to 10 scale.
Anyway, I think before worrying about a potential weight gain challenge, just trying to get feeling better might be the first goal?
