would you recommend your medication and why?

Posted by julie1977 on January 10, 2010, at 6:01:27

I would recommend olanzapine for anyone who has constantly ruminating thoughts and strong negative labile emotions. Plus for minor psychotic thinking. I had all the above and the olanzapine has helped with them.
I would recommend Nardil as it has reduced my Social Anxiety and gives me more good days than bad.
Together the medication has given me stability, I used to think I suffered from Borderline personality as I shared some of the symptoms - inability to regulate my emotional reactions, extremes of 'I hate you don't leave me', in my relationship (Now ex) and some other stuff I can't remember off hand.
If I had to say the best thing, although there are many, it is the relative emotional stability I experience, and this makes me dislike myself less. The reduction in SA means I don't feel as neurotic around people, which is a bonus. And of course, the antidepressant effect which means I don't wake up with a heavy chest and feeling of doom, I don't struggle through my day with constantly fluctuating negative feelings.
I did post a 'success story' but since that posting I realise the black dog hasn't entirely left me and I do still have bad hours and days, but not stretching into a constant dysthymic and dysphoric state.

I would recommend all of my meds.

Geodon- worked great to control mixed states and improve depression-- no side effects except weight gain-- just because it stopped working for me doesn't mean other people wouldn't get longer use out of it.

Lamictal- Definitely. This is the first drug I ever felt normal on. It relieved what was left of my depression without any side effects-- what a dream! It worked for several years before I messed it up by going off of it and then trying to go back on it

Parnate-- It depends. If people can do well on SSRIs or Wellbutrin, I would encourage them to stick to those rather than Parnate. That said, Parnate helped my depression and took me out of some really deep lows. I'm not a huge fan of the acne, hypotension, and insomnia, though. Also, you can't mix alot of drugs with it and you have to follow a diet, which isn't as bad as it sounds but is sometimes annoying.

Ambien- I think it works pretty well without side effects. I would recommend it although I think I prefer Lunesta.

Seroquel- this only puts me to sleep (which is what I'm on it for). It has no mood benefits at all. I think it's a little too powerful of a drug to just use as a sleeping medicine and wish I didn't have to take it.

I hope that helps someone!

For almost 40 years all the benzos in low doses helped me. Seemed anxiety was the problem Gad diagnosis and I was normal for so many years. Phillipa
