groggy after Lamictal increase?

Posted by Roslynn on January 7, 2010, at 15:46:01

Hi everyone,

I increased my Lamictal last night from 25 to 50mg. (I'm using the starter kit.) This morning I woke up with headache, severe spaciness, lightheadedness, and very drowsy. I had to sleep later and it was very hard to lift my head off the pillow when I finally got up. All day I have been very dopey/forgetful.

Does this sound like something a Lamictal increase would cause? I'm trying to think if there could be any other cause.

For those of you taking Lamictal, have you experienced anything like this and does it go away?
I'm supposed to work up to 100mg and now I worry about what that will do.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Roslynn

I also had the starter kit and got up to 50mg with absolutely no side effects except horrible spitting mucus kept coming up and had to quit. Other than that no side effects at all. Phillipa ps it was to augment an ad.

I got a slight headache when starting lamictal, and each time I have increased it. I think I get a little HAPPY briefly when the dose is increased, that's with a capital "H"
but I have also been irritable initally on it in the past, nasty sid- no fun :-(
but the other stuff you describe I haven't had...
however, not much can compete with my seroquel sedation so I could've missed it.
I hope it turns out well for you.

Dear Obsidian,

Thank you for your reply. I have a headache and irritability also. Apparently I am very sensitive to meds.

I used to take Seroquel and the first day I took it (only 50mg), it knocked me out cold for 6 hours.

Thanks again,
Roslynn

hi roslynn,

I had similar thing happen every time I increased the dose. Went away after a few days. The worst was the dizziness.

I don't know what your plans are as you continue to go up to 100mg, but I would recommend doing 75mg for a week or two before you go to 100 which I think can minimize these unwanted effects. I actually did this for one week (even though doc said oh once you get to 50 you can just double it everytime you go up...) I still felt crappy for a couple days when I got to 100. I also did 150 for a week before going to 200. I didn't have any problems at all when I got to 200 as far as the dizziness/spaciness. good luck
