This might be worth checking out if you are having problems after taking ssris for a long time.

I've been on meds, including large doses of ssri's, for over 15 years, and my life has improved leaps and bounds. No I don't have EVERY perfect day, but I can actually live and enjoy life. Plus, even with meds, I too still have to make the effort, work very hard on myself, which i have learn't a great deal about psychology; proper social interaction; and becoming a kinder, gentler person. I remember the horror before meds. I will never let myself get like that again. Plus, I think it is more then just some doctor say giving you a small starting dose of an antidepressant and that is it. I think all AD's should forever be used with a benzo. Plus, the atypical antipsychotics work amazingly well, as well as various mood stabilizers. I completed a Graduate university on heavy medication, and it actually seemed to make it easier then in the past, before meds.

Jay, I use psychotropic medications as well. I thought some of the research articles linked from that site were interesting, and worth posting, that's all. I can see why you may disagree with the motives of the person who created that site, which I am really not concerned with, but some of the articles may (or may not) apply to some people experiencing adverse affects. While you disagree, I think some of the information can be useful to others.
I don't see a lot of studies done on long-term affects of these medications and that is something I'd like to see more of and thought if that site collects them, it could be useful.
My psychiatrist told me this: some of the smaller/less known/less funded studies are facilitated by a doctor, or group of doctors/colleagues, who notice common effects on their patients. This is a motivator for some of those less known studies, and I greatly respect that. I think the smaller, less 'famous' studies should get some attention for this reason. There is a chance some of those studies are done out of benevolence, imo.
I respect your opinion as well-thanks for commenting.

I know the people behind the antidepressantfacts website. They also run a yahoo group for people who have had EXTREME reactions to SSRIs. Some of these people cannot tolerate bright lights or loud sounds do to taking SSRIs for as short a periods as a few days. Some of them are on disability because their short term memories are so bad. A few have been involved in a class action lawsuit against GSK for the damage done from taking Paxil. Others there are people who have had a very difficult time withdrawaling from SSRIs.
They are antipsychiatry, but they have their reasons.
This is the end of the thread.
