xanax and short withdrawals

Posted by sdb on July 1, 2009, at 9:28:53

quite recently a student told me that he's taking up to 0.5 mg xanax for sleep sometimes in the evening but concomitantly he complained about increased nervousness, bad mood and anxiety in the later morning. Is that a short withdrawal syndrome?, is it common for alprazolam and did it happen to you?

warm regards

sdb when on xanax usually took every four hours. Sometimes anxiety was low and only took at night. Maybe valium would be better as I only take at night? Phillipa

I don't or didn't notice any withdrawals. I am on .25-.75 but have taken up to 1.25 mgs. when needed for panic attacks.

I have been on it for 1 1/2 years. I often went without it for days until I got really anxious.

With my recent panic attacks I take it more regularly but not usually during the day unless I get a panic attack.

Does that help.

my p-doc and I discussed other meds, other benzos for my panic attack but xanax is the fastest acting of the benzos so we decided to leave it in place until I get immuned to it.

I was a little bit astonished because it was prescribed by a GP. Nowadays I noticed that the trend of psychiatrists is to avert xanax the most whereas it is more and more imipramine used...

rskontos: It's good if you can take it sporadically. How long is the effect if you take it approx. 10 pm, until next morning or even midday?

I've heard of this referred to as a rebound effect w/ xanax. Not everyone experiences it....
