I was just put on a 15mg dose of Remeron about a month ago. My weight has ballooned and I cannot stop eating. I want to get off this drug.
My question is, will the withdrawal symptoms be less severe since I haven't been on it very long? I am also taking ambien and ativan for sleep. Should that be able to counteract the insomnia from the withdrawal?
thank you for any help. :)

I was on Remeron for a short time and discontinued it without a problem. I think you'll be fine.

> Greywolfthank you for your response. Do you think I should still taper it for a week or so? I tried to do without last night and ended up having to take half my normal dose at like 4am because I couldn't sleep.

I also took 15mg for a month with benzos for sleep no weight gain or hunger. Discontinued it as didn't seem to do a thing. I too just stopped it. We're all different. Wonder why some withdraw and some nothing strange. Phillipa

You must have hell insomnia.
Throw a little Seroquel in there and you'd be comatose.
I took Remeron and I don't recall the withdrawal being that bad at all. But I definitely developed an affinity for Hostess snack cakes.

I am taking 45mgs of remeron at night as both a sleep aid and an AD. Larry Hoover cautioned me to decrease the remeron very slowly. He recommended 7.5mg reductions a week. He said that it basically shuts off the histamine receptors and that this causes rebound insomnia. I've probably got that only half right and I have not tried to decrease it since my pdoc thinks it is a good combination with pristiq. I must be the only person in the world who has not had appetite problems with it.
Good luck.Zana
