Hi
I suffer from terrible lethargic depression as a part of bipolar.
I have just been put on Parnate (along with my mood-stabalizers and stimulant) but its making me soooo sleepy. I have been reading so much here about being stimulated on parnate plus thats why my doctor put me on it- to wake me up. But it really is not helping the sleepiness- making it worse actually.
I sleep all day when I'm on SSRI's and SNRI's havent been particularly good either.
Funnily enough the most stimulating drug I have had is Geodon. At low doses 40-60mg it stimulates and its also a good AD. What was so strange was that when I took the dose, I was comotosed within a few hours and couldnt open my eyes so I had to take it at night. But the next morning I had more energy (in combination with my old usual drugs) than I have ever had in my life. I even held down a really challenging 9-9pm job for the first time ever.
Sadly it gave me neuropathic pain that responeded very little to drugs so I had to withdraw. I have tried abilify and its really doing nothing for me.
I want to change to a stimulating AD or any other class of drug.
Has anyone had experience with a good drug that stimulates (apart from stimulants themselves) I'm really at a loss here and would love any input
Thanks
D

have you ever had a sleep test? also try some cyproheptadine at bed, see if that works like geodon, at low doeses geodon is pretty similar especially since it was making you sleepy. thyroid is also something to consider.
how long/dose on the TCP? it made me tired the first week or two
i'd imagine modafinil or adrafinil woudl be very helpful
could also try creatine and alcar, though most anything that is energizing can also cause mania so keep that in mind.

I have been to a sleep clinic but was advised that my sleepiness was liknked to a psychiatric problem.
Unfortunately I am allergic to all anti-histamines so cyproheptadine is not a possibility.
I've only been on the Parnate at 10mg for around 10 days. I want to stop it because it just knocks me out so much. I looked up stephen stahls prescribers guide and he clearly says that it is sedating (3 out of a maximum of 4. whilst on the parnate i have been taking up to 400mg provigil (approved by my doctor)but even that doesnt help.
I guess there will never be anything like Geodon for me :( because it activated but it also acts to stabalize mood and get rid of anxiety. I think I may have to take my chances with the pain
Thanks for your reply
