Anybody else notice that drugs that have norepinephrine reuptake inhibition as one of their properties (i.e. duloxetine, reboxetine, tramadol, etc.) have the effect of making you more sensitive to criticism and rejection, and make it seem as though people are evaluating you more?

No took 60mg of cymbalta. Could it be high anxiety almost paranoid? Just asking first thought I had. Phillipa

I notice some strange things with norepinephrine active drugs. They mess with my sense of time. Sometimes they make me more agressive towards personal insults - or precieved personal insults.

Ya, I notice the extra sensitivity, emotions all over the board, quite often too when on a norepinephrine drug. Right now I am on imipramine as an add-on to fluoxetine, and having some of the same issues I had with high dose Effexor XR. It feels like what I would imagine as the male version of PMS. (with all due respect :) But I seem to need a bit of norepinephrine stimulation, which as long as it doesn't spill over into anxiety or triggers a manic episode, helps me with my "avoident personality disorder" problems.
I have found an occasional hit of high dose melatonin to seem to calm the norepinephrine stimulation, if it gets too bad. Benzo's are probably the best tx, IMHO, especially Xanax, around the 1mg three times a day dose. If I am at home, and not going out (i.e. driving or to work or whatever) I can take 2 to even 3 mg of Xanax (only once in a blue moon) and it just relaxes me, maybe even into a bit of a 'drugged' haze, like no other. And I've been on benzos for about 12 years, and I still can get that effect! But, I almost never do that, and usually I end up falling asleep after that high a dose. This is what I call my "big, red, temporary relief" button, for days when everything is just HORRIFIC. I think we all deserve one of these. I've used it once this year. For me, it seems better then smoking pot, as I really hate the "smoke" part of it all.(I get a kind of "dirty" feeling, what I imagine would be similar if smoking tobacco or anything else.)
Sorry for the rambling...excellent topic!
Thanks,
Jay

I think nortriptyline would have been a better choice to add to Prozac. I don't think it has as much potential to produce the behavioral side effects you are currently experiencing. Another advantage to nortriptyline over imipramine is that has much milder anticholinergic side effects. Additionally, you might want to look into using Prozac in dosages of 60mg and higher.I think this strategy of combining Prozac with a TCA is a good one.

Yes, except for one...Milnacipran. It did that in the first 3 days, but afterwards not.
Added to your list I would put St Johns Wort. A rather rejected dejected kind of feeling, despite being calmer and subdued.
But for some reason, Milnacipran did not do that to me except during the first 3 start-up days.

Could these properties come into play separately during MAOI (Parnate) Treatment ie I felt wonderful for over a week, now I feel like a raving lunatic the last two days? I did just take 6mg of melatonin and feel better. If this is correct, anyone know how long approx for MAOI to reverse MAO's and finish its job? 11 weeks, gettin old. Any pattern or order? Thanks-~Jade

I thought it was just me for a while. But nope, sure enough, every single time I start a drug with norepinephrine reuptake inhibition properties, my interpersonal sensitivity/rejection sensitivity aspects of social anxiety get worse. Even on tramadol. So I will be steering clear of those for now.

I have a male friend who described his feelings almost the same as yours. He, too, is on Maoi, it happened to him before me, as he's ahead, but sure enough, couple weeks later it happened to me. Glad we got that figured out!~Jade
