My experience in a nutshell...was on 225mg effexor, along with 200mg lamictal, and 50mg trivastal (trying the european approach)...started reduction to 150mg effexor, then one stablon daily, withdrawals very manageable, felt a little better....
2 weeks later, 75mg effexor, 2 stablons daily....mood improved a little, effexor withdrawals not too bad....
3 weeks later, dropped the effexor completely, still taking 2 stablon daily as well as the lamictal and trivastal...
the effexor withdrawals at this point smacked me in the face...5 days without effexor, brain zaps starting to get a little better, but overall the withdrawals are MEAN...I'm a pretty tough guy, and can take quite a bit, but this put me near the breaking point...felt like I had a bad fever, appetite was out of whack, sleep very disturbed for several nights...getting off effexor is like getting off morphine, its very tough...granted I lowered the dose pretty rapidly going from 75mg to 0 at once....
very slowly starting to normalize and hoping the stablon proves effective. I dread the thought of having to get back on effexor. I will keep you all posted. This reminded me of how bad the sexual side effects are of SSNRI's, as I thought I just didnt care for sex...Now I reach orgasm in about 1 minute, it's pretty unbelievable until you experience yourself...
My advice; if you attempt to get off effexor, plan on having at least a week of being able to be 'sick' at home, and not having work or finances to worry about, otherwise you probably will give in and take an effexor

Is Stablon available by prescription in the USA? My Psychopharmcology guide by Stephen Stahl--which is fabulous by the way--say that Stablon is mainly marketed in France. I actually hadn't heard of it before getting back on this board again, and with the exception of some of the tricyclics, I'm pretty up to date on my meds. Anyway, Stahl says Stablon, or Tianeptine is supposed to be good for Dysthymia/Atypical Depression, which is what I have. Does it have any pro-social or motivating effects on you? Thanks, D.R.C.

The information in the Stahl text is still accurate, as far as I know. Stablon (tianeptine) is marketed in France and is not available as a prescription medication in the United States.

I haven't personally tried it, but if I do, I'll let you know. Hopefully, others here will be able to do a better job of answering this question than I did.

Sorry i didnt respond earlier, havent been on the site in a couple days....Stablon is workin well for me, but I would say effexor is more 'potent'. Im not going back to effexor unless I have absolutely no choice, as it was hell getting off it...a little less than 2 weeks off effexor, and Im convinced there are some residual withdrawals still with me...
Stablon is not marketed in the U.S., but lets just say the internet is a fantastic thing...I don't purchase any of my meds here as I just cant afford it, nor can i afford going to the doctor who will write the prescription...I dont think I'm supposed to post websites that I use as a resource for obtaining my meds, but put a little research into it, and you will find your way...If you have trouble, we can talk via e-mail...the best of luck to you
BTW, great thing about stablon is so far I have not noticed ANY sexual side effects...Getting off the effexor brought that part of me back, and that is worth the battle alone
