Nardil weight gain: How do you withdraw fast?

Posted by Girlnterrupted78 on May 24, 2008, at 16:23:47

I have been on Nardil for a whole year and it never worked. I know I waited a long time. The problem was that first I wanted to try different doses. Then I thought about augmenting it, but my shrink refused to. Later I decided to switch doctors, but my clinic has a policy of no change in doctors.

So I kept waiting till I could find another clinic to finally give Nardil a trial with an augmenting agent, and finally the day is getting close to seeing the next doc. But now I want to desperately get off Nardil.

The problem is that I began to slowly gain weight throughout the year I was on Nardil. I didn't even realize it until a few months ago. The weight gain was very slow and unnoticeable at first... about 2 pounds per month. It began when I had been on Nardil for about 3-5 months.. I'm not even sure because at first it was just 2 pounds per month.. very hard to see it. Is this how you gain on Nardil?

At this point I'm very uncomfortable with my weight. I'm not sure if it's Nardil, or just my eating habits have changed overtime? How do I figure this out?

Anyway, now I really want to get off Nardil to find out if it's causing the weight gain. Weight gain is actually a huge depressant for me. I don't feel comfortable at all at work or in social situations. Either I'm skinny, or I'd rather stay home. This is how bad my self-esteem is.

If anybody has experience with Nardil weight gain, I'd appreciate any input: Did it happen slowly, or fast? How many lbs per month, more less? And how many lbs total in how long?

And last, how can I go about withdrawing from Nardil in as fast as I can? If I go cold turkey, is there bad side-effects? I'm on 60mgs daily. What's the shortest it can take me to withdraw?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I just stopped it cold turkey and didnt hve a single problem. Took about 1 1/2 weeks for the side effects to be gone.

I had the same experience as you, although in my case the Nardil alleviated my depression quite a bit.

I had to go on a weight loss regime to lose the extra weight, but it came off pretty easily. I THINK I may have had increased carbohydrate cravings on Nardil, but that kind of subjective reporting is notoriously unreliable. But I'm pretty certain that, like you, I had slow steady weight gain.
