decreased appetite on Prozac?

Posted by Happyflower on May 12, 2008, at 17:48:17

I am taking 80mg/ day and I have noticed I am not hungry much. Which is good I guess because I am overweight anyway, but it is kinda weird. I also seem to eat less at meals.

My kids bought me my favorite candy bar- Butterfinger, for Mothers Day and I put it in the freezer and I still haven't had it or craved it.

I heard people who gain weight, but can you also lose it too?

While some people do have troublesome weight gain problems with prozac, one of its more common side effects is decreased appetite and weight loss. A caution is often given when prozac is prescribed to someone underweight.
So, prozac can cause weight gain or weight loss, varying from person to person, but generally speaking weight loss and decreased appetite is more common.

yip, I'm relieved to be one of those in which SSRIs help the weight & appetite issue. They really help in the "feeling crappy from eating yet wanting to eat crappy". They also seem to speed up or help my digestion, I guess because that's another place serotonin is abundant.

Short term ssris can cause lose of appetite and weight loss. HOWEVER long term tend to cause weight gain because ssris increase prolactin and lower dopamine and human growth hormone the slenderizing hormone. Forschtay?
