to loose weight while we're on all these medications.
is it ok to try some of these things. yes i know it's probably a waste of money. but hey i'm desperate.
i'm back on zyprexa, and though i haven't gained a lot of weight, i can't loose any. and i need to. DESPERATELY. i'm still carrying baby weight (ok how long can i use THAT excuse) but seriously.are there serious interactions that can occur with using some of the things you can buy at those GNC stores and such.
mostly i need to get into a regular exercise routine but that's my prob, no time, and no energy. my only down time is after little one goes to sleep at 8:30 and by then i'm wiped. or first thing in the morning which i'm hoping for, but the zyprexa wipes me out and it's SO hard to get up. i can barely get up to get to work in the morning.
anyway.i'm not even sure i can afford those rip off things, but im getting desperate. but i'm also worried about getting some freak reaction cuz off my meds. and i'm chicken to ask my pdoc, so i thought i'd ask you folks first. (less judgment hopefully).
i'm on:
lexapro
topomax
zyprexa
ritalin
xanax PRN

In reply to so what about OTC diet pills..., posted by B2chica on May 8, 2008, at 9:11:18
Most of them are a waste of money, at best, and many can be dangerous as well. For the most part, these days, they're some combination of mild stimulant -- such as caffeine -- and high doses of B vitamins, which can affect mood, nerves, etc. And the supplements like Hoodia? Those generally contain little, if any, of the allegedly active ingredient, which may be a dangerous thing to begin with.
There is some evidence for green tea, but that's equivocal, at best.
Your best bet is to talk to your doctor about metformin to mitigate the Zyprexa weight gain, and leave the GNC stuff on the shelf for someone who doesn't have the great advice you can get here. :-D
I'm sorry -- I know how upsetting medication related weight gain can be. I hope it gets better.

maybe switch the ritalin for one of the other stimulants that have more of a weight loss effect? There are so many choices for stimulants, don't feel limited to ritalin based ones.

Please elaborate. Which have more of a weight loss effect than Ritalin?

>Amphetamines (e.g. Adderall or Desoxyn) can be more powerful anorexics in some people.
