I had a bad reaction to klonopin years ago and was given Xanax to try. The small dose I tried made me feel much worse.

Hi MB what kind of bad reaction. Some get paradoxical reactions. There was a poster here a couple of years ago who could not take valium. The difference in klonopin to me is that it made me feel suicidal and I wasn't where as xanax is short acting and a very small ad response. I did well on it for years then it switched on me and made me tired. So I take valium now. Please let us know what the reaction was. Phillipa

I'm not sure what you mean by it making you feel worse. Worse how? More depressed? More anxious?
Both meds increase the function of GABA in slowing down brain excitation. Though they are similar, they are also distinctly different. But maybe the GABA approach for you is not the biochemistry to work on.

I had increased heart palpitations and my blood pressure went up 30 points with a very small dose of Xanax. It also made my GERD much worse. I felt better (except for the stomach which is still killing me) about 5 hours later except for a complete emotional meltdown.
They were wanting to give me something to LOWER my blood pressure during a medical procedure and this was the drug they chose. I was told to "test" it and see if it made me sleepy. They didn't want me falling asleep. To be fair, it might have partially been a reaction to the clonidine they gave me 24 hours before to quickly lower my blood pressure.

MB funny any medical proceedures calling for a bit of relaxation valium 5mg was also prescribed before lasix surgery and after the surgery just had for muscle spasms. Phillipa if test is done already hope things went well. Definitely clonidine will down your pressure believe it not we gave it to detoxing coke addicts.
