I started Buspar about a month ago as a last ditch effort to control this burgeoning anxiety I've been dealing with lately.
I had been taking Klonopin, but felt myself going down the benzo pit and wanted to try something else.
My doc was willing to try Buspar, but was very clear that he didn't expect it to work.
It took a while to kick in, but the anxiety is gone - just gone. I feel good.
In fact, I came off the klonopin cold turkey with no withdrawal (I don't know if the Buspar had anything to do with that)
I take 15 mg of Buspar twice a day
Just thought I would post some good news.

Glad you did good to hear good news. Now an old thought was that if you'd been on a benzo buspar wouldn't work so I guess it's not true or the doses have changed? Love Phillipa

I tried it unsuccessfully, though after reading your post I'm wondering if I even gave it a good shot. I noticed no effect after about a month then dropped it. My doc was also hesitant about it's effects.
I've been taking clonazepam for 14 years so it may be just that I'm more resistant to other medications anti-anxiety effects. Clonazepam still works like a charm but I would like to experience life without it. SSRI's and such so far have not allowed me the chance to drop the benzo.

I was all prepared for it not to work at all, and so was my doc. He even said, "well, good luck with it". He did say that one of the problems with the drug was that they were underdosing patients.
What dose where you on?
I've been really pleasantly surprised.

I was on, I believe, 15 mg's 3X a day, I think.

Same with me think somehow the benzos override them somehow? Or just we all have diffent chemistry? Phillipa

Seems like I was on a very low dose like 5mg with benzos? Once a day I think. Phillipa I know I too at this point would like off the benzos.

For one thing, it does take a while to build up to working well, but more importantly, I don't think there's any of that floatiness -- it just seems to cut the anxiety, nothing else. Benzos do other things, beyond just cutting through the anxiety, so if you're used to that effect, BuSpar won't feel as though it's doing much. That's my thinking on it, at any rate -- I have heard others voice that opinion, including psychopharmacologists, but I have no idea if there's any actual truth to it.
But I also loved BuSpar's effect on my anxiety -- just wish it hadn't come along with quite the side effects it did for me...
Oh, well...
