Not a good day to post but pharmacist converstion

Posted by Phillipa on December 24, 2007, at 15:31:27

Well finally had to go to an Urgent Care cause the nurse at the doc's office that was filled insisited. So went to pick up meds and had an interesting talk with head pharmacist as I have a horrible sinus infection Tussi cough syrup was one the meds along with of course generic antibiotic. But get this the Tussi was over $79, Asked why no generic as I used to give it out so know it's not a new med been around a long time. She said the patent so far is l7 years old. She said they can not replicate a medium to create a generic. Same with premarin as they released a generic twice and had to recall as they cannot make a generic. And we talked about celexa and lexapro. She said they are similar meds but not the same so no wonder so many can't take the generic verions. Reminds me of what you all say of the MAOI's and the new versions. So what are the drug companies up to? Phillipa thought it interesting.

I thought 17 years was the rolloff for patents. This is a patented generic if its Tussi Organadin -- it contains phenylephrine, which is, unfortunately fairly useless. Thats why its on "patent." If they gave you codeine separately and guaifenesin separately and pseudoephedrine OTC you wouldn't be getting this. This is in response to the put behind the counter pseudoepehdrine crap (oh did I say that ?).

In other words its perfectly possible to have your prescription for half its cost. Someone just put a "patent" on PE formulas instead of allowing you to sign the poison register (the pseudoephedrine register). I'm surprised they didn't give you ... oh wait I just looked it up, Entex LA. None of that, its also PE. That stuff saved me several times. I'm surprised your ENT or doctor didn't give you orders for the strong stuff.

I do hope though it works for you, the PE, its jus that sinus sufferers have been royally complaining about it. I don't touch it.

Have a good holidays, get some rest.

So it's not strong as I haven't touched it but will as maybe with the valium will sleep better. thought it was so addicting dangerous. Almost all the patients had a script for it in the hospital.

So what about the celexa and lexapro found that interesting too with so many complaints from people on how celexa was weaker? Love Phillipa

PE is not as strong as pseudoephedrine, no, but since you have a lot of anxiety, you might as well use the script. It might help some.

Well, Lexapro is the metabolite of Celexa and to date (not including my GI reaction) is the cleanest and most targeted SSRI available.

That doesn't mean you still couldn't go up eventually on your Luvox -- its you and your doctors choice, if that is what you are thinking of.

Which do you think as you know me so well that would benefit me the most and I'm not holding you to this I recognize it's an opinion and your're not a doc. Phillipa

Well Luvox CR was given an approvable letter for OCD so it may appear sometime soon -- you might benefit from the extended release since you've had problems with the regular formula. I think there is a bit of OCD going on but that's just my unprofessional opinion.

On the other hand, Lexapro can also treat OCD just as well -- its merely the case, can you tolerate any side effects (there really are very few, I'm just very sensitive to medications) and will Lexapro treat your anxiety better than the Luvox you already know.

That's my best advice.
