Lamictal: Can one get Chest Pain, Short of Breath

Posted by garyengelm on December 17, 2007, at 16:15:23

I was only on 25mg dose x 9 days. Around the 6th day, I started getting more anxious, with mild chest pain and shortness of breath at rest.

I wasn't having a panic attack. And it was intermittant throughout the day. I've stopped the med x 2 days now, and today I got it bad. Xanax did nothing, as I attributed it to anxiety. Then I took 25mg of Benedryl and it calmed it down. Still not completely gone, but better for now. I am so med sensative. Drug should be almost out of my system by now, so not sure if it's the med or not, since it started while on the Lamictal. Could this be a withdrawal effect? I was so close to going to the hospital, but like I said, the Benedryl calmed it down, not the Xanax, as I waited 30 min after taking 0.5mg of Xanax before taking the Benedryl. BTW, it's like a different form of anxiety I'm getting. Can't explain it, but it's not the overwhelming, "I'm gonna die" anxiety. It's always something every time I try a new med. Lyrica is next on my list, due to it's raving reviews. 6 Psychiatrists can't figure out if I have BP II, PTSD, GAD, or a co-morbid condition. Pretty sad considering one was a 30 year psychiatry professor from Hopkins. This is the guy that weaned my Serzone I had been on for 6 years by 50mg/week and landed me in the ER with severe Akasthasia when I landed at Serzone 150mg.

I have over 200 percocets here from a knee surgery last year. Maybe I should just take them. They make me happy all over. In the year since all of this anxiety started, I havn't taken one of them. Days like this start making me think twice about it. BTW, thanks for all the support I've gotten here. It's much better than the chat rooms where people have no idea what they are talking about.

Bronchitis and flu syndrome are listed as possible side effects. It sounds more like side-effects that withdrawal syndrome.

Don't do the percocet thing. You will regret once you run out and realise you are addicted.

I could never go over 75mg of Lamictal because I got chest pains. They always went away if I stayed at 75mg or below.
