I've lowered my dose of valium from 20mg to 15mg at night for sleep and I'm sleeping longer and later don't get it? Any ideas? Thanks Phillipa

Why question it, as long as you're getting the effect you want, that's all that matters. You have been on it a long time. Maybe your body can no longer metabolize it as it once did. You may be better as you decrease it. It is obviously no longer effective at the dose you were taking it at for so long. 15 is a better place to be, maybe even 10 might be.
I would thank my lucky stars if i was able to wean off of it or keep it at a low dose and get some benefit from it.
Are you happy with it allowing you to get more sleep? You must be. I wouldn't get so caught up with the rationale behind it. Those kind of explanations will just make it more confusing for you and you will obsess about what it is doing.
I approach the meds alot more simplistically, they either give you good effects or not. I don't really want the neuroscience and rationale behind something that no one really understands. That is for the experts to figure out, if there are any. My own choice of meds has had a better shot at working than my pdocs, so what does that tell you?

You also raised the dose of luvox which is very sedating.

Such a little increase. First time one it was up to 250mg in a week or two. That was about l0 years ago. Phillipa think I should go to l00mg from 75mg tonight it doesn't give side effects at all. I don't even feel it. Phillipa

You're not going to feel much anti-OCD and anti-depression from it until 200mg. I've left it at 200mg and parked it there to percolate, I'm not interested in raising it at the moment with other issues but 75mg, even in an older individual, is not going to give as much relief as a higher dose.

What about the valium? Why am I sleeping longer and later on a lesser dose don't get it? Phillipa

I think, with such a small decrease, causation is not correlation. At least that's one theory. You're not getting out active enough. The other theory, your anxiety is keeping you wound up into the wee hours of the morning and you end up sleeping more. Either way it should settle itself out, especially if you're active, which I think you alluded that you do go bike riding.
