This is a benzo question hope it doesn't get redirected to health but seriously the ob-gyn said that maybe part of my bladder problem of having weak muscles for peeing and evacuating too and suggested that valium could have or be doing this. Relaxing the smooth muscle of the bladder. But been on them so many years and never had this problem till lately . Any thoughts? Or am I dealing with another quack which is what I seem to do. Thanks Phillipa

According to Epocrates, incontinence, urinary retention, and constipation are all common adverse reactions. So it would seem that Valium can have an adverse effect on the urogenital system, though I have no idea if that's what's going on with you.
I think it's great that your doctor is looking at any and all factors as possible contributors to your problems. Surely a doctor who uses critical thinking, i.e. who considers different hypotheses instead of latching on to one idea is far from a quack.

GG thanks that was my sarcasim as I've picked so many bad docs in the past kind of a joke. It is an interesting hypothesis though. Don't know how to google it. Phillipa

Valium is a muscle relaxant, so what your doctor is saying may be correct.

Zyprexa, Abilify, Seroquel, GEODON, Risperidone, all causing lot of things you describe ...Valium is still used to treat psychosis in resistant patients or for those who can't bear the effects of other things. I went down that road (not that I have classic psychosis) but unfortunately have habituated after 3 or 4 years. Depends on the person I guess.
