i'm having an interesting effect. but i am a little concernce that it could turn into something worse and was wondering if anyone has experienced this from zyprexa.
i'm feeling very intelligent...
not feeling cocky. but i am alert, and understanding concepts that i used to understand in graduate school, but better and quicker. almost too quickly...almost edging on aggitated at times.my question is i'm concerned that it could get worse. could this just be that the ritalin is working and
maybe i should cut out my cup of coffee in the morning (except that i've been on ritalin for over a month now, or
maybe i should lower my dose of ritalin
or maybe since upping my zyprexa it's decreased my depression so much that now i am ACTUaLLY thinking like i am supposed to think.
maybe i am actually smart??? and its nothing to worry about?
morning
ritalin 20
topamax 50
(supposed to start lexapro but nervous and havent yet) almost a little paranoid about starting it.afternoon
ritalin 20mgevening
zyprexa 10mg (just upped 3 nights ago)
xanax (to help sleep and during day as needed)please let me know if you have any suggestions.
i know that zyprexa inhibits dopamine, but i would think that if anything that would decrease productivity not inhance it...but i am experiencing exactly that.???

I have schitzoaffective and take 10mg zyprexa. Never taken ritilin, and don't want to. But yes the zyprexa was the one thing that helped me get through colege with straight A's. When I tried to cut back on the zyprexa, my ability to perform went way down, and could not concentrate. My mind was else where. That was actualy what I told my doctor, that I wanted to bring the dose back up to 10mg, because it was making me think better.

To say in a blanket statement that zyprexa inhibits dopamine is misleading. It isn't that simple. While it does partially block dopamine receptors, it does not completely block them. It only binds for a short time, unbinds, rebinds, unbinds, on and on. It doesn't continuously bind and block. So dopamine communication does happen. It also stimulates more dopamine. Zyprexa increases, not decreases, dopamine in the brain. Many scientific studies show this effect. It also increases norepinephrine. Its effect on serotonin is either neutral or a slight decrease.
So it is more complicated than it looks. You seem to be feeling the benefits of increased dopamine and norepinephrine, with enough blockage going on to balance it all out.
This is the end of the thread.
