Lithium and Depakote

I just got back on meds for my bipolar. It's been 4 yrs since I have been on them.

My doctor today prescribed the following:
Lithium- 900 mg
Depakote ER- 1000 mg

Is that normal?

I don't understand why he would prescribe 2 mood stabilizers unless your bipolar is not doing too well.
